Prepare yourselves, music fans! The long-lost Slipknot album, Look Outside Your Window, is finally set to make its debut on Record Store Day 2026. This highly anticipated release is not just another addition to the band's discography; it's a unique project that reflects the experimental spirit of its creators.
Originally recorded in 2008, this album was meant to exist as a side project for band members Corey Taylor, Jim Root, Sid Wilson, and Shawn "Clown" Crahan during the sessions for their fourth studio album, All Hope Is Gone. However, instead of being released under the Slipknot name, this 12-inch vinyl will be presented as a self-titled work from Look Outside Your Window, adding an intriguing twist to its identity. Only 2,300 copies will be made available, making it a rare collector's item for fans.
In a recent statement, the band shared insights about the creative journey behind this unique project. "We recognized that we were exploring a different artistic direction, separate from what we typically do with Slipknot, and we embraced it wholeheartedly," they explained (via Knotfest). They chose the name Look Outside Your Window to honor this adventurous approach to music-making.
The songs for this album emerged during a tumultuous period in the band's history. Picture this: late-night songwriting sessions held in a secluded farmhouse, where the only company was the vast unknown outside their large picture window. This environment inspired the music, as they pondered what might be lurking beyond their view. The result? An album that breaks the mold—filled with diverse sounds and spontaneous creativity, including subtle drum loops, organ snippets, abstract guitar tones, and even unexpected samples of frogs and crickets. The band emphasized that there were no boundaries; they allowed emotions and instincts to guide their soundscapes.
In December of last year, Clown made a promise during a Discord Q&A session for his Minecraft server that Look Outside Your Window would finally be released in 2026, after missing previous anticipated launch dates in 2019, 2023, and 2024. Fans have been waiting a long time, and it seems the moment has nearly arrived.
