Power Outage Disrupts Shreveport Area, Leading to Multiple Closures
SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - A power outage that occurred around 10 A.M. on January 7, 2026, has caused significant disruptions in the Shreveport area, with numerous local buildings and institutions closing their doors. SWEPCO, the power company, reported that approximately 1,100 customers are currently without power due to maintenance issues. They assured the public that their crews are working diligently to resolve the problem, and power should be restored within the hour.
The following establishments were among those affected and remained closed on January 7:
- St. John Berchmans Catholic School
- Loyola College Prep
- Shreveport City Courthouse
A representative from the Office of Catholic Schools & Faith Formation Diocese of Shreveport explained that the power outage at St. John and Loyola was caused by a transformer failure on Jordan Street. As of now, neither school has announced a specific reopening date.
However, the Shreveport City Courthouse is set to reopen on Thursday, January 8, according to a representative from the Shreveport City Marshal's Office. This development brings some relief to the community, as the courthouse's closure has undoubtedly impacted the city's operations and services.
