Leigh Leopards secure a significant contract extension as star forward Owen Trout re-signs
The Leopards are in for another round of positive news, as forward Owen Trout has signed a new, long-term contract with the club. This follows the recent news that Umyla Hanley, another key player for the Leopards, has also signed a new two-year contract with the club, announced on Thursday. These re-signings are a huge boost for head coach Adrian Lam and his future plans, as both Trout and Hanley are considered star assets within the Leopards' squad.
Trout joined the Leopards in 2024 and has already made 61 appearances for the club. His standout performances last year, where the Leopards finished third in the Super League, earned him a place in England's Ashes squad, and he made his international debut in the first Test against Australia. Trout's talent has also drawn interest from the NRL, with sources suggesting that his contract includes clauses allowing him to move overseas at certain points.
Despite this, Trout's future remains with the Leopards, and he is expected to be a key player in their upcoming campaign, which many are predicting will be another strong showing after a successful recruitment drive. Before joining the Leopards, Trout played for the Huddersfield Giants, making 54 appearances over four seasons. In his time with the Giants, he showcased his versatility, scoring seven tries and playing both in the middle and at back-row.
